It has been a fantastic term at Gorsey Bank for all our pupils and local community, as we near Christmas, all sorts of festive activities have taken place across the school. To end a brilliant term, we have wrapped up some of the highlights from the last few months…
Pupil Parliament Week:
For UK Parliament Week 2023, throughout school we focused on the skills required for debating. Each year group conducted their own debates – just like in Parliament! They used formal language and sentence starters to introduce and rebut ideas. This opportunity allowed the children to practise articulating their own ideas and respectfully challenge the ideas of others – skills that will prepare the children for the outside world.
Aspirations Week:
Gorsey Bank pupils experienced different activities to help them see what they aspire to do as a job when they grow up.
Aspirations Week is a bi-annual event we have run for many years intended to encourage our pupils to aim for great things both for themselves and the people and communities around them. This is done predominantly through an array of visitors who come in tointo school with inspiring stories about how their roles make a positive difference to the lives of others.
Forest School:
Forest School is an educational approach to outdoor learning and is designed to inspire all individuals through positive outdoor experiences. Our Forest School is located on our school grounds in the woodland at the side of our school field. Every academic year, every class at Gorsey Bank has a series of Forest School sessions encompassing art and creative skill as well as bushcraft, den building, bug hunting – usually rounded off by the obligatory hot chocolate! We also run sessions for school and nursery groups from the local community.
Nativity:
Each year our pupils really look forward to the nativity and they always embody the characters. Whilst this is an exciting and interactive performance, it is also for our pupils to learn all about advent and the nativity. They all did a fabulous job this year with lots of energy and worked hard learning their lines.
24K in 24 Hours:
Pupils at Gorsey Bank Primary School were delighted to take part in the helping the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust raise 24k in 24 hours. Children at the school have really enjoyed the mass sport’s afternoon we held on the 6th of October. They all showed great spirit and really enjoyed themselves, as well as learning about the importance of giving back to others through supporting charities. They took part in sports such as tennis, hurdles, races and much more.
That’s a wrap!
From all of us at Gorsey Bank Primary School, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
